Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

Everyone has a goal in his, her life on which they are focused during their life. Such a goal, I think everyone needs, it gives you a lives task and brings structure into your life.
As I was a young guy, say around 18, I dreamed of becoming a teacher. And I almost became one, but as I was almost ready with this study I had a kind of revelation. I saw myself standing beside the sickbed of someone … that was the “trigger” to change my life’s goal. At that moment I realized that I had to become a nurse. So I had to change my structured life, taking another road.
I experienced that becoming a nurse was a big goal, so I had to take little steps. I first became an orderly, than after a few years I took the challenge of a higher level of education, but in that same period of my life I met my wife, we had children and so that higher level wasn’t important enough to me, because I now had a family of my own for whom I had to care. So I stopped with that higher education and did a step back, to a lower kind of education. At that same very moment I became involved with haiku.
At that moment I stood on a kind of crossroad and I asked myself “Which path I will take? Will it be becoming a nurse or will it be becoming a great haiku-poet. To me it was a very difficult question. Finally I decided to become first a nurse and after that make work of my haiku, to become an international known haiku-poet. It was the right choice. Now I am an oncology-nurse and a well known haiku-poet. Both goals I reached only by taking little steps, very structured little steps, and making the right choices.
That’s what “fixity” means: “Taking little structured steps to reach your goal!”

Take the right way …

What are your goals? What do you want to have reached as you are lying on your deathbed and look back on your life? Have you become what you wanted? Did you had a good life? Can you die with the thought “I have done what I could do and I have reached what I wanted. My life was great, not easy, but I would do it again, in the same way. I wouldn’t have missed all what I have done. I have done it!”

The newest prompt from Carpe Diem Haiku Kai,”Tackle It Tuesday”. Here is our host’s big question: “What are your goals? What do you want to have reached as you are lying on your deathbed and look back on your life? Have you become what you wanted? Did you had a good life?” This is connected with the idea of “fixity” — taking small structured steps to meet your goal.
